Plasma Winch Rope

Famous Four FourSport offer the latest in ultra-high breaking strength, pre-stretched braided PLASMA winch rope – a modern alternative to steel wire cable.

Plasma winch rope has a great many advantages over standard steel cables:

• Lightweight - less than 9 percent of the weight of an equivalent run of steel cable
• Stronger - 7.9 tonne minimum breaking strain (MBS) for straight pulls
• Harder Wearing - impregnated to improve abrasion resistance
• Safer - minimal recoil should the rope snap under tension
• Low elongation - approx. 3 percent elongation
• Easily spliced and re-spliced
• Does not splinter or kink

The 12-strand plasma rope is very firm and compact, with a smooth surface finish. This is the highest strength synthetic rope available, for safe winching.

We offer 9.5mm Plasma rope, pre-cut to 30m (100ft) lengths, with a pre-rigged 'eye' type sling hook for attachment.

Aluminium Hawse Fairlead

Imported from the US and specially designed for use with Plasma or Dyneema ropes, this fairlead eliminates snags and abrasions that occur from repeated use of rope with conventional roller type fairleads. The Hawse fairlead is ultra lightweight, and fits 9" drums used on many Warn, Superwinch, Ramsey and Husky winches.

PLEASE NOTE: This Fairlead is NOT suitable for use with Steel Winch Cables.

Kinetic Energy Recovery Rope (KERR)

KERR is one of the best forms of vehicle recovery – especially when a winch is unavailable. The kinetic energy of the tow vehicle is transferred into the KERR, causing it to stretch. As it stretches it stores energy within the rope. When the KERR is fully stretched it will contract again, transferring the energy to the stranded vehicle. This system allows more energy to be transferred to the stranded vehicle than by towing alone with a standard rope or tow strap.

KERR can be used in conjunction with a bridle rope or strap arrangement to ensure an even and straight pull, and also to distribute the load across more than one recovery point. A bridle can be formed by using two recovery points, both at either the front or the rear of the stranded vehicle. KERR is fully washable, but should be allowed to dry naturally and stored dry to avoid any damage to the fibres of the rope.

Famous Four FourSport offer Kinetic Energy Recovery Ropes in two lengths, both of 24mm diameter, with WLL ratings of 2 tonnes and MBL ratings of 12 tonnes.

Always use Kinetic Energy Recovery Rope safely

1. It is imperative that KERR recovery is treated with great care and a good degree of common sense.
2. All persons involved in the recovery operation should wear appropriate safety clothing.
3. When recovering with KERR it must be securely and safely attached at both ends to strong, solid recovery points on the two vehicles BEFORE vehicle movement begins.
4. NEVER affix KERR to any corroded areas, or to damaged or insecurely attached points on either vehicle.
5. Ensure the immediate area is clear and safe before proceeding with a recovery.
6. Always ensure the equipment used in conjunction with KERR is appropriate for the task at hand. KERR should always be used in conjunction with individually load-tested shackles to ensure maximum safety. Nylon Towing Rope

• 5 metre nylon tow rope
• 24mm diameter DIA Nylon
• Working Load Limit (WLL): 2 tonnes
• Maximum Breaking Limit (MBL): 12 tonnes

Looped Tow Straps

• 1,500kg Working Load Limit (not doubled up) 10,500kg Min. Breaking Load
• Available in 4.6m (15ft) or 9.1m (30ft) lengths

For similar use as the above Nylon rope, these tow straps have the advantage of being lightweight and easy to store in the vehicle. Looped at both ends for easy attachment. These straps are NOT suitable for snatch towing.

Tree Strops

• Made from 60mm duplex strap.
• Available in 2 metre or 3 metre lengths.
• 2,000kg Working Load Limit (not doubled up)
• 14,000kg Min. Breaking Load

For use when winch recovering, these dual banded strops are invaluable for avoiding damage to both the object you are anchoring around (be it a tree, post or other vehicle) and your own winch cable or rope. Sharp edges can fray winch lines prematurely, reducing their life and increasing the likelihood of the cable snapping under load. Unprotected winch cables also damage trees irreparably, thus a tree strop should always be used when anchoring to a tree. Tree strops protect both, for safer, environmentally friendly winching and longer lasting winch line.

Remember, always check your tree strops regularly for fraying or damage. If you find any evidence of damage replace your tree strop immediately.

Lightweight Winching Sail

When winching, the winch line can often be difficult to see, especially in muddy environments, or when supervising a winching operation from a safe distance. There is also a danger of people or vehicles crossing the winch line inadvertently. The bright red Winching Sail is large, easy to see, and simple, making winch lines clearly visible. It is also easily indicates when the winch line is slack or under tension. Furthermore, in the unlikely even that the winch line should snap, the sail will dampen the recoil to some extent, thus reducing the safety risk associated with using winch equipment. No winching kitbag should be without one.
