Apologies for having missed a month in our news section
- time seems to have been in short supply recently!
Almost one quarter of the year gone, and we’re still ploughing
through Jo’s Christmas biscuit selection boxes here in the office,
although as Chris has been on holiday for a week our consumption has
slowed somewhat. Andy is doing his best to step into his shoes by eating
as many chocolate biscuits as he can before the world reserves dry up.
Generally there is a great deal of activity here at the happy Land
Rover parts farm;
Young Ryan the apprentice is in danger of being let loose on the Lincolnshire
roads as his driving test looms large.
Spence has been adopting as many sad and lonely old Landys as we can
throw at him. To date he seems to have at least one version of every
model built before 2000, and Liz his girlfriend is sizing up a Freelander
2. Thankfully they have a very large crew yard for storage, and equally
enthusiastic family members who look forward to each new arrival.
Jamie was last seen driving into the sunset in a lovely Discovery 3
we have for sale - checking it out for squeaks and rattles I think he
said - but an extended test drive seems to be taking quite some time.
Funny how when they were first released in 2004 we all thought we preferred
our Series 2s, but now we’re all fighting for the keys! Richard
took one to Manchester recently and was subsequently spotted measuring
his garage door height to see if he could fit one in.
Andy, the lucky fellow, has been designated as keeper of our latest
works vehicle - a tried and trusted 1.8 petrol Freelander with one of
two careful previous owners. So far we haven’t had to replace
the engine (had it 4 weeks at time of writing) although it has just
left our workshop with a spangly new IRD unit. Great vehicles these
- and a soon as the window regulators, sunroof runners, viscous coupling,
etc, are replaced, it’ll be better than new.
Tom, the previous apprentice, has left us for pastures newer (maybe
greener?). After 5 hassle-free years of working with Landys he has taken
leave of his senses and gone to a Honda dealership. Begs the question
WHY?, but we wish him all the very best for the future.
Dave is working on getting the green light for a new motorbike from
his better half. Yes, the time of year for leathers and visors is coming
upon us again. I hope Martin can manage a crash-free season round Cadwell
Park this year, because watching a grown man crying is not great for
the soul.
If any aspiring and committed Landy enthusiast is looking for a cushy,
stress-free long term career, stop reading now. Should there be anyone
else still reading who has a realistic outlook on life and would like
to be part of a hard-working and slight crazy team of folks here in
Louth, please take a look at the VACANCIES section of this ‘site
- we have something which may interest you.
Until next time, keep flying the flag, and all the best.
